‘I am Dreaming of a Place’ I am dreaming of a place, an island faraway a quiet peaceful world where every little bird has its own song to be heard a right to live its life a simple happy life All is silent, and I let my sweet thoughts wander each minute lasts forever the fresh air soothes my mind this dream is full of gladness of everlasting freedom each creature live in peace, in peace The lights of the city do not please me, though they’re grand, I would rather see my own land so I’ll dream of my faraway place where all kinds of wonderful flowers bloom sunny fields and shady forests welcome me Rays of sunlight find their way through leafy branches of the forest where I wander makes patterns on the ground I’m so glad that I’ve found a place to spend my time there’ll be no lonely days for me now Oh la la la, la la, mmmmn, hmmn, Ooooooo … I’m so glad that I’ve found a place to spend my time there’ll be no lonely days for me now, now.

It’s easy to pretend that a guitar can be a kind of friend so I call you by your name every time we start to play Any way you choose I owe you a song or two so step into the tune and I’ll sing this one for you I take to the strings and I play them softly when I’ve got something to say You always answer them in your own way No-one knows just why but there’s a strange bond between you and I Our language is your sound and the music that we’ve found (La-la, La-la-la la, la la, la la la!) I know you’ll be there ‘cos we both live for the times we share Together Patrick and I will be friends forever it’s something no-one can change 'cos he'll wait there silently till I call on him again Then it’s more than just pretence that a guitar can be a kind of friend I know you think so too now that I’ve sung this song for you For you

The Sparrow 02:38
Caught in the changing tide of uncertainty for every tear that falls is a shattered dream By now your hopes have disappeared so all that’s left is fear and insecurity Like a sparrow lost on the stormy seas you struggle for your sanity and though you know you may not win you’ve got to try again, it gets lonely but it’s really only a stepping stone it won’t last for long you know it cannot last for long You’ve tried to hide your fear behind a smile and think that just by lying you’ll survive but all the while I’ve seen it in your eyes the shadows of the night still haunt your weary heart And like a sparrow lost on the stormy seas you struggle for your sanity and though you know you may not win, you’ve got to try again, it gets lonely but it’s really only a stepping stone it won’t last for long you know it cannot last for long, it cannot last for long

I walked down to the lake in Malnerholm; Saw a man with weary eyes an’ a heavy load; he said, 'I am troubled because I have answers that don’t satisfy me!' I told him: If you want to know … Go, ask the stars that no-one has seen, Where they shine between those galaxies far from home! Go question the sunless night - through an eagle’s eye – While the songs and seas ... are calling to Antiquity. So we talked and turned each others’ thoughts around; Well he told me, 'Life is a shadow of the mind ...' Search inside and lay your questions down: How many people are to be born? How long the tide will rise an’ fall, Maybe time means nothing at all? Ask the moon when she’ll refuse to shine, borrow the prophet’s eyes But the songs and seas are calling to Antiquity. There’s a kind of logic that we’ve both denied; don’t ask me why Just go, ask the stars … We’re calling … Calling to Antiquity … And the songs an’ the seas, they’re calling back Calling right back now, calling ... to Antiquity.

Tree 02:55
If there’s only one thing who knows how to move me it’s grey-blue-green, and it lies inside the Tree! As the years have shown us, we’ll go too far down into the green light, to a space of our own. Sly tree, you know me: I’ll have you … ! I can’t say: How many shadows could I hold? And ages span with my life, being trees, in the still breathing of their leaves - Oh an’ when the light falls, could I travel where the sun goes? - sinking down into the Tree. Feel the darkness moving, in her slow cooling when the rain is slipping down, down, you can hear the wood-knot sigh There are oceans in here, creeping over me with their infinitely blue-green hands! Lines … slowly, drink of me too ... ! Then tell me: How many shadows ... etc (repeat chorus, ibid)

Dream Dawn 02:52
Green light, frost on the seedling; Kloh weaves his legend again, Slip away, listen, the sand-grains are shifting, None of you ever the same: Rise up, wee goblins and sing, come dancing, Soon we’re all going to fly! Catch my eye and hold it there, You’ll see a heart laid bare, Come into an elfin dream buried in your soul; Touch, my hand, no hold it firmly and never let go And you’ll see a peace in me, even when you go. And the sand holds fast where the elves are, Down where the old waves roar! Frost rides, high on the firefly, Over the bright star-lore; Rise up, ye faerie and dance, we’re waiting, Up on the stealing shore!

Human Lovers 03:00
Verse 1 Time apart has made us strangers See how I’m avoiding you again? I try to beat you at this elusive game we’re lost in … Why do I feel I’ve lost a friend? Chorus I’m so tired of running, of being some will o’ the wisp in your dream I just want to see you - is it so wrong to be with each other like human lovers do? I just want to touch you and be loved right through. Verse 2 If I whisper, ‘Baby I’m with you!’ Don’t go thinking you’ve conquered me! I see that frightened prisoner in your best charms and your little schemes and I believe I’ll set him free Chorus I’m so tired of running, of being some will o’ the wisp in your dream I just want to see you - is it so wrong to be with each other like human lovers do? I just want to touch you and be loved right through. Refrain I’m tired of running, of being some will o’ the wisp in your dream I just want to see you - is it so wrong to be with each other like human lovers do? I just want to see you and be loved right though, I just want to touch you and be loved! I just want to hold you and be loved right through.

Songflower 04:47
Verse 1: Are you cold? Well you know, you have music to warm you: don’t be afraid, you have all your songs to cling to and if you’re lonely, you must call this freedom where you have only yourself to rely on. And there is nothing beyond your power, he couldn’t take your Songflower! Oh no, so you better keep that flower growing. Verse 2: In your life, there is so much good to believe in! In your mind, there is a heaven undisturbed and from your crystal pool, all the watersprites are rising, they have strength to give you. And there is nothing beyond your power, he couldn’t take your Songflower! And there is nothing you can’t do now Chorus 1: Why can’t I rest? I’m not in love anymore and I’m sailing in some limbo … Rest heart, you’re free as a bird and the wings are healing swiftly, I’m not in love anymore and the waves are rolling home now. Hey that old witch is dying and the elves are taking over! And they’re gonna lead you away to cooler waters where the Songflower grows Oh I’m flying away to cooler waters where the Songflower grows Verse 3 So you strived, out in the frosty ridges of morning You were shaken, trampled in the hardest clay Suddenly the rain was whispering - Chorus 2, incantation: She is no-one else’s song She is no-one else’s song She is no-one else’s song She is no-one el - says - she is no-one else’s song, She is no-one else’s song! Ah, you’re gonna keep your Songflower so strong, They’re gonna lead you away to cooler waters where the Songflower grows Oh I'm flying away to cooler waters where the Songflower grows Oooh please take me away to cooler waters where the Songflower grows Hey I’m flying away to cooler waters, where the Songflower grows where the Songflower grows.

Wreaths of flowers fill my pockets and my hair with these Sing some riddles and roundelays a pomerine if you please Trees of roses scarlet towers entwined in green Come and ring the circle of the Faery our junortoun jubilee

Hover 03:43
You’ve seen all of the things I can be, and I know you well! You’re an impossible rogue, I don’t wish to change that. You just weave in and out of my loom Tangled in loose threads I want to set you free Till your shining through me. Hover inside my life Linger in my world a little while longer You wither away my fear That trusting is followed by a fall Linger inside my love, Moving as one’s just a little too easy We call it beautiful, aha. Don’t go kidding me you can change, That would be most absurd For an impossible rogue With a spark in his evil eye I never want to see through our childish emotions I must just be brave I’ve been cold too long now: Hover inside my life, Linger in my world a little while longer You wither away my fear That trusting is followed by a fall Linger inside my love, Moving as one’s just a little too easy We call this beautiful, aha. I never want to see through our childish emotions I must just be brave I can’t be too wrong now If I rest my life on love Then … you will want to, oooooh you’ll want to Hover inside my life Linger in my world a little while longer You wither away my fear That trusting is followed by a fall Linger inside my love, Moving as one’s just a little too easy We call this beautiful.

Verse One Often the colder mornings Make your deeper fears Rise up in a storm … Give us a chance Chorus: And I’ll love you like a slow winter rainfall Like a lake of silver so deep I will play you like a harp in the arms of a minstrel Till your loving is as wild as the sea. Verse Two Sure as cities crumble Under seven seas You’re ready for my love And in the height of feeling When you’re giving most Boy, you’ll have no worries anymore Chorus For I’ll love you like a slow winter rainfall (Oooh I’ll love you like a winter rainfall)

The Seagiant 05:22
Sleep oh darling our Storm has passed, dream of it all your life though our dreams might only come briefly true they last long after we die Sleep, my Ocean my River my Rain, safe in the Earth that loves you rest my Hunger, down on the seafloor till I return to wake you, I will return Oh look you're so peaceful, just like some man who dreams on the seafloor Oh! my Seagiant was beautiful, you won't forget me.

about

Lula, my childhood nickname, comes from Puellula, Latin for young girl. This is a collection of original compositions, opening with my earliest studio recording at age 10 and moving onward to university. It expresses the idealism, yearning, isolation, whimsy, folly and rapture of a budding Faerie. Dig into each song link for lyrics and early photos. Painting is by my mum, Belinda, of me in the garden I made in Junortoun, traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung. In late 70s - early 80s it was still bushland. I might add more songs to this batch as they turn up. Others are on the Elderbrook album that I'm preparing to upload at Bandcamp separately. To those of you who first heard these songs decades ago: thanks for the memories! I love all I've ever loved.
