I passionately voted Yes for an Indigenous Voice to parliament here in Australia. The nation's rejection of this Referendum is a disgrace. Upon the song's release leading up to that horrific day, I was optimistic for a better result. I acknowledged then, as again I do now, the Dja Dja Warrung people of Bendigo, where I was born, and where we live now. Dja means Yes. (Over 80% of Indigenous Australians voted yes.) This recording is also an invitation. I had hoped to replace my spiel in the song's opening with a narration by an Indigenous storyteller-musician and ideally include Indigenous music for a new Djaara mix. I would understand if that invitation is rejected, given Australia's foolish, unjustified, mean spirited rejection of the most gracious request in our epoch, the Uluru Statement from the Heart. The First People deserve support, goodwill, trust, respect, recognition and cooperation. They deserve better than what Australia has delivered so far. This song remains free, and I'm leaving it here as a reminder that when history called, 60% of Australians turned their backs. Standing firm with the 40%, I will never turn away from prejudice.
lyrics
‘Big Stream’
(in the Empty Space - write YES !)
Intro narration:
Sun is rising
And I’m voting Yes for justice
Saw the Harvest Moon
And I’m voting Yes for what is fair and bold
Yes for the Voice
Of the First People
And make sixty thousand Springtimes
A reason to rejoice
Verse 1:
Tide ambling onto the scene
Play like it’s real
Daughters of the Big Screen
Dive into the gold and the gleam
Take to the sea
Breaking on the Big Stream
Chorus:
Tied to a Name
Tied to a Place
Tied to a Body
Tied to a Face
Tied to Religion
Tied to a Race
Only thing I’m not tied to is that Empty Space
Verse 2:
Fools creeping onto the lyre
Play like it’s real
Rolling on the Big Stream
Ghouls beckoning up on the briar
Leave them behind
Breakers of the Big Dream
Chorus (Refrain)
Tied to a Name
Tied to a Place
Tied to a Body
Tied to a Face
Tied to Religion
Tied to a Race
Only thing I’m not tied to is that Empty Space

This album carries one of my favourite recordings by this legendary mythic rock band: Adrienne's song 'The Children of Lir'. It's so good that it feels like a traditional ballad. Louisa John-Krol
