Violin Velvet is an imp, whose instrument is made of black velvet, with a needle for a bow. She hangs around carnivals, pageants and fairgrounds. A character from The Elderbrook Chronicles (unfolding), by Louisa John-Krol, she often dances with a small black cat, plays by magic fountains, or hitches a ride in caravans. Illustration of Violin Velvet by Belinda John.

Violin made of black velvet
Strings of brocade:
Tunes are threads, weaving, braiding my
Tapestry of a parade

Violin Velvet, sew your song
Violin Velvet, won’t be long
Till I find a fountain where you may play on!

Needle for a bow
Where your melody will go
I don’t know...
Violin Velvet...
