Ophelia's song - come aboard! - remix from Alabaster

by Louisa John-Krol

/

about

Remix of "How should I your true love know?" (traditional) from Shakespeare's play "Hamlet", from LJK's 4th CD "Alabaster" 2002. We've added a recital to the opening: "Come Aboard" by Mark Krol. In doing so we bounced additional parts to our earlier recording, for Shakespeare's 450th birthday 23rd April 2014.

lyrics

'Come Aboard' prelude / poem by Mark Krol:

Come aboard!
The ship is waiting.
We’ve reserved a seat for you.
You’ll recognize some of the people here:
There’s one who’s been waiting a thousand years for you
And here’s one who’s been dying
to finish a conversation with you 350 years ago
And here’s a book of unfinished poems -
do you remember these?
And you thought they’d been lost to oblivion.

'How should I your true love know?' (Ophelia's song), traditional by Walshingham / Shakespeare:

I

How should I your true love know
From another one?
By his cockle hat and staff,
And his sandal shoon.

II

He is dead and gone, lady,
He is dead and gone;
At his head a grass-green turf,
At his heels a stone.

III

White his shroud as the mountain snow,
Larded with sweet flowers;
Which bewept to the grave did go
With his true-love showers.
