about

As told and sung by The Faerietale Woman:

On a stormy night at sea, Luty the fisherman is rescued by the mermaid Eloise. With a coral harp she calms the waves and sings, in a voice so sweet and high that Luty is unable to forget her. Eloise later returns as a gypsy, for a terrible price: should he not wed her within seven years, she will lose both her chance to be human, and the last of her sea powers.

lyrics

Something in the storm tells him
she would come tonight
When she does he won’t let her out of his sight!
He’ll not be a poor fisherman, she’ll make him a king,
so promised the merrow of the sea.

She had sea-wild eyes
in the palest face
Half hidden by golden hair.
She was green iridescence,
Shimmering water-form,
waves whispering everywhere.

Luty! Down in the deep we’re calling,
Luty, won’t you come back with me?
Luty, you are the one I came for
Luty, come into the sea.

All across the ocean
she would dance away his fear
Now he’ll never dare
to let her out of his dreams
Her eyes are the ocean
laughing through her hair:
Luty! Come into the sea …

Luty …
