about

Marthuba’s sister Lily was so pale and tiny, it was thought she was a faerie child who would soon return to her own people. On the night she died, a giant owl hovered by her window. Marthuba’s parents grew afraid, for they knew this was a faerie Messenger. Thinking to save his infant, the father took the first object within reach - an old black jewel box - and hurled it at the Visitor, who fled screeching and nursing a broken wing. Years later in remorse for his cruelty, Marthuba’s father turned the weapon into a music box.
