about

'Gwyllion' is a bonus track on the 10th Anniversary Collectors edition of 'Alexandria' (Forest of the Fae, a division of Dark Symphonies, USA). Lyrics were inspired by a book I've loved since childhood: 'Faeries', by Alan Lee and Brian Froud. Gwyllion is a Welsh faerie, part of my heritage as a Welsh-Australian. Her name means gloom or gloaming (twilight). This Welsh mountain witch would hide among rocks, watching passersby; I like to imagine that she would collect the heads of horse riders in her dilly bag.

lyrics

Stony is her stair
where brambles grow;
Ponies wild and fair
would pass by Gwyllion

Lonely is her lair
where horsemen lie;
Eyes behind her hair
is waiting Gwyllion:

Dilly-bag bounty, carry the brain
Billy or Tamlin - what was your name?
Tig Tag Toe, and wouldn’t you know?
Nimble my ride to ramble row!
