The Windrow

by Louisa John-Krol

about

From the album "Apple Pentacle", released on French fairy-world label Prikosnovenie 2005.

The Yarra river flows through Melbourne as well as many townships, including Warburton, location of this song. Yarra Yarra, also known as the Birrarung, means "river of mists and shadows" for the Wurundjeri, traditional inhabitants, whom we acknowledge with respect.

Since 2010 I've been working with Monash University researchers who help protect our waterways and sustain our quality of life. I provide admin and editing / proof-reading support.

However, when we created this song, Mark & I were both teachers and would often walk together to refresh our spirits, along riverbanks or bush trails, resting at towns in the Yarra Valley such as Yaraglen or Warburton, as named in the song.

"Choices are the hinges of destiny"
(Pythagoras)

lyrics

The Yarra of Warburton
clashing cocoons ripping through the
Mirrors of what we see
glancing upon the screen of promise

Which one is your world?
Which one are you sure about?

Take all your favourite dreams
arrange them in patterns plenty
No matter how deep you dive
into wells of circumstances

Windrow, Windrow,
Drift like a curtain - Speak like thunder!

Teapots at Yarraglen
masking mountains leaping clover
Caravans in the dawn
carting musk and sandalwood

Which one will you choose?
Which one knows and questions you?

Hazelnuts in the breeze
carrying embers of delusion
Why don’t take your drum
and unleash the memory of you?

Windrow, Windrow,
Drift like a curtain - Speak like thunder!
