about

A bonus track on the 10-year anniversary collector edition of Alexandria, this song does not appear on the earlier German edition, which featured a green lily on its cover, nor on the original Australian edition. All three editions have sold out and are long out of print.

It was inspired by an illustration in 'Faeries', a book by Brian Froud & Alan Lee, and by my Welsh ancestry. The tune came to me while staying with the hosts of Faerieworlds 2009.

Gwyllion is a wild Welsh Mountain fairy (shy or sly, who can really know?). Her name means 'ghost' or 'gloaming', she hides to watch passersby.

lyrics

'Gwyllion'

Stony is her stair
where brambles grow;
Ponies wild and fair
would pass by Gwyllion

Lonely is her lair
where horsemen lie;
Eyes behind her hair
is waiting Gwyllion:

Dilly-bag bounty, carry the brain
Billy or Tamlin - what was your name?
Tig Tag Toe, and wouldn’t you know?
Nimble my ride to ramble row!
