Violin Velvet

by Louisa John-Krol

/

about

From my double-album Elderbrook, 2017 preliminary release: Violin Velvet is a busking watersprite in my Elderbrook Chronicles. VV is neither male nor female, but lemale. Le violin is made of black velvet with brocade strings and a needle for a bow. VV sleeps in a caravan with a dancing black cat and top hat, and hangs around carnivals, pageants, fairgrounds, or the Singing Fountains of Alderbee.

lyrics

Violin made of black velvet
Strings of brocade:
Tunes are threads, weaving, braiding my
Tapestry of a parade

Violin Velvet, sew your song
Violin Velvet, won’t be long
Till I find a fountain where you may play on!

Needle for a bow
Where your melody will go
I don’t know...
Violin Velvet...
